Each year, nearly 750,000 children interact with the foster care system. Up to 80 percent of those children have complex medical needs and require more healthcare resources than the general pediatric patient population.

However, there is a current divide between healthcare and child welfare organizations that is creating barriers for both clinicians and caseworkers when providing care for foster youth. Social information is not immediately known to health systems, and timely access to healthcare information is not available to child welfare agencies. Cordata IDENTITY was developed to bridge the gap between the two systems and remove the barriers in place.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center implemented Cordata IDENTITY in 2018 and Dayton Children’s Hospital followed shortly after in 2020. Robust surveys assessing experience were administered prior to and following implementation. Data was also collected to examine billing and time savings.
